Given the calibre of Swedish extreme metal over the past two decades it’s hardly a surprise that Construcdead have to a large extent flown under the radar for most people, with The Haunted, Soilwork, Darkane and In Flames monopolizing the Death/Thrash Swedish scene. Given the collective talents that make up the Construcdead line-up it’s hard to fathom just why, despite a decade of trying little impact has been made. ‘Endless Echo’ is the bands forth album and continues in the vein of their previous releases, staying firmly within the confines of groove driven Thrash meets Death. Those familiar with Darkane will know of Jens Broman’s vocal styling’s and his ability to dance comfortably between out right raging to the more subdued clearer moments; which he does with aplomb. The real bugbear I have with Jens vocal performance is that you feel he really is within his comfort zone and for a vocalist of his abilities you’d hope for more development. For the most part ‘Endless Echo’ shines as a consequence of the bands ability to write heavy has hell Thrash riffs with ear catching hooks and an underlying groove, and this is where the band can draw their successes. Production is crisp and what you’d expect and want for the level of layering Construcdead create within their music. For me the stand out tracks are ‘A Goddess Breaches Through Me’ and ‘No Exit’ and get better with repeated listens. I don’t see ‘Endless Echo’ being the break through album that propels Construcdead into the forefront of the Swedish / World extreme metal scene, nor however is it an album not without it’s considerable merits. For anyone who favours the more technical blend of European Thrash / Death should certainly enjoy what is on offer as there are sum very good moments to be enjoyed, unfortunately they are not frequent enough to make the album truly standout. |
