The emergence of Grunge in the early 1990's appeared to kill off the last of the great Thrash acts that had dominated the tail-end of the previous decade. Exodus, Vio-Lence, Forbidden, Death Angel et al, all drew a line under their respective legacies and the genre as a whole. Or so we thought.

With the dawn of the new millennium came a resurgence in the Thrash movement and with it came the new breed, keen to build on what went before adding their own inimitable twist.  Led by the likes of Machine Head and The Haunted, we find Brazil's own Chaosfear. Their debut release, "One Step Behind Anger" fuses all the speed, aggression and ferocity of the acts that so obviously inspired them, with more than a few Death Metal influences thrown in for good measure.

The album benefits from a robust and full-bodied production quality, giving it that authentic thick Thrash vibe. Production is however only as good as the songwriting on offer, and thankfully there is an abundance of technical proficient, groove laden speed metal gems on offer. Album opener "Hard Time For The Wrong Man" throws you headlong into a whirlwind of high speed, high octane no holds bared venomous metal. Not ceasing for a moment "Incongrunous Possession" continues much in the same vein and it is not until the title track is the tempo lowered enough to catch your breath.

"Driven By Hate" and "Minds Temptation" add to an already impressive arsenal of songs from which Chaosfear have to choose. Whilst much of the ground has been trodden many times before "One Step Behind Anger" still remains hugely impressive and a true exponent of what great Thrash Metal is about. Much akin to being hit with a bag full of spanners.
